  • Wednesday Steals: The Last Gasp of the Summer of 2007

    October 17th, 2007 by markdownmom

It seems  that items on clearance online are lasting longer and not having those huge slashed prices necessary to move last season’s merchandise out to make room for the current season Fall merchandise.

Don’t get MDM wrong this doesn”t mean that online and in the store, there isn’t plenty of Fall inventory; in fact, even Holiday merchandise is out earlier than ever.  Aghast, but nonetheless true, MDM  heard Holiday music being piped in the stores last week!  What seems kind of odd is that online you can find Holiday markdowns from 2006 and last season merchandise that should have had their prices slashed by 75% or more, marked down once or twice to 30%-50% off retail.  This may mean that retailers are banking that areas of the country or world, with warmer climates that still provide a market for summer apparel   and stave off the deep cuts in prices.  Also, It could mean that summer togs have a market for those planning cruises or winter vacations in warmer climates.  Or, it could mean that merchandisers are selective in choosing summer  items for reduced prices based upon individual garment design and its’ ability to be sold as part of a transitional wardrobe for Fall.

Coldwater Creek® as part of its Outlet savings, is holding it’s Last Chance on "Fall Clearance."  MDM liked the savings in Coldwater Creek’s Hottest Deals with markdowns from 30%-70% off and includes transitional pieces, shoes, accessories, jewelry, beauty & home decor.  As with any good sale, quantities and sizes are very limited, but well worth shopping like this kimono sweater reg.$69 steal $19.99.

Mikasa has revamped its’ web site and now in addition to clearance has it’s "Deal of the Day."  For instance, these Impressio  crystal goblets and beverage glasses are perfect for the upcoming holidays, reg. $14.99 steal $4.99.  Free Shipping on orders of $150+.

ShopNBC is offering discounts on the more you spend.  Save $10 on purchases of $199, up to $80 on purchases of $999+.  Use Promo Code Save10, Save20, Save40, Save80.  Additionally, they have a new "Below Cost Boutique" department where you can save up to 80%.   MDM found some great ‘must have’ beauty brushes on clearance.  This blush brush by Isomers guaranteed for 5 years, reg.$30 steal $4.99. While you are there check their Top Value  of the Day for additional savings.

Just in time for Halloween–Who’s Your Mummy!  For Today Only, JCPenney® has this fun spooky Halloween Mummy  Yard Art reg.$169.99 steal today only $19.99+sh.  Great fun at a great price.
