  • Wednesday Steal: It’s 4 o’clock–Time for Tea!

    February 6th, 2008 by markdownmom

Around 30 years ago, Markdown Mom and her new husband took a belated honeymoon trip to Europe, and, of course, in London a necessary stop was to Harrod’s Department Store.  At the time they were having their annual china sale, and MDM thought that a perfect remembrance of their stay would be a tea set.  The pattern she chose, after conferring with the Harrod’s salesperson, was a Royal Albert Country Roses Tea Set.   Little did she know that this design would become extremely popular and be offered in upper end department stores two years later.  Who knew?

The teapot has a wonderful Alice In Wonderland shape and, needless to say this set is lovely especially during the holidays including Valentine’s Day.  To enjoy now and  a keepsake that will be passed down for generations to come. Today in their liquidation sale, JCPenney™ is offering essentially a similar tea set by Royal Doulton in the Country Roses pattern for roughly the same price it was 30 years ago!  Regular $516, steal–outlet price for $99.99

P.S.  At the time they didn’t have the covered sugar bowl, so MDM had to settle for the open one!
