Watch Out! Seinfeld May Steal This Delicious Babka, Too!
June 8th, 2007 by markdownmom
One of the best skits Jerry Seinfeld had in his show’s repetoire was the theft of the babka. MDM loves chocolate babka and as a gift or just for yourself can truly appreciate the ‘must have’ feeling that drove Jerry to steal this delicacy.
When thinking of chocolate babka, a close cousin in our neck of the woods would be potica, a slovenian nut filled bread made with walnuts, poppyseed, and dried fruits. Chocolate babka is a sweet bread made with walnuts, chocolate chips, and cocoa. Both of these breads are labor intensive, and lucky for MDM a bakery chain in the Twin Cities makes this delicacy.
At the Breadsmith, you can buy chocolate babka for about $14.00. Now this may seem somewhat pricey, but one taste will make you realize that’s it’s a steal and worth every penny! The Breadsmith located at 1579 Grand Avenue, St. Paul (651) 690-3244, near Highland Park area of St. Paul, is the one MDM visited.
Next to an outdoor cafe, this small shop assails your nose with wonderful smells of italian ciabatta with or without olives and spices, shortbreads such as zucchini and pumpkin, with or without walnuts, and earthy, healthy breads like honey wheat.
