Harrods. This is a must see if you ever get to London. At Knightsbridge, Harrods is a bustle of activity, especially in the food mart which is quite colorful. Although it is a high end store, you can find a bargain or two. In late summer, around the end of July to early August, they usually have a china sale. MDM was able to get a lovely Royal Albert tea set that even with shipping and customs was considerably less than buying it at a department store in the United States. If you are not planning a trip soon, the next best thing is to shop Harrods’ web page. Right now Harrods is having a limited sale on accessories. Take a look at the toile bowls for half-price. Also, MDM enjoys the commentary on each item. For instance, check out the hand whisk that will “…take lumps out of anything,” cost is around $8.00+ sh. For best buys check out the glassware sale and the food & wine sale where you can get marmalade and quail eggs. If you want a bit of Great Britain, in souvenirs, the tee-shirts and umbrella of Harrods London are more than 50% off. I think it would be great to check back to see if their paisley gusset bag that is 50% off comes back into stock. Quite smart, inexpensive, and useful—especially for shopping at whole food stores, farmer markets and the mall. Also, for anglophiles who want posh at a price check out the rugby socks at 25% off and Harrod’s robes at 50% off! Remember that there will be a vat (value added tax) included in the shipping charges, so be sure to check out shipping expenses outside of Europe. update 02/27/06: Fortum & Mason[www.fortnumandmason.com] Terrific food hall where you can get a caviar pot for $25. Think about this item since next month MDM is going to bring you the best affordable caviar at the most fantastic price!
