  • More St Paul Eats-Spiro Mediterranean Market

    September 27th, 2007 by markdownmom

Spiro Mediterranean Market is a Greek-European market and small sit in dining eatery.  Olive and balsamic oils, spices, beans, rice, pasta, and other grains are some of the many commodities available to try out your own Mediterranean recipes.  One unique item that MDM found at Spiro’s was their rustic pasta from Italy (pictured right) brightly colored with spinach, tomato, red beet, carrot, tumeric, and squid ink.

SpanakopitaAlso available in their refrigerated section are a variety of caviar, squid and seafood, and frozen meals that can be popped in the oven for a delicious dinner or party appetizer, such as the Greek Spanakopita (pictured right) stuffed with feta cheese and spinach.

The Deli is spectacular!  You can order a variety of greek and mediterranean-style olives, moroccan figs, pastas, and their popular $4.95 gyros.  They also have a wide selection of desserts.  MDM recommends their baklava (pictured right).  It is thick and topped with a generous layer of caramel.

A place that even Zeus would enjoy!

looking for cheap location for my 60th birthday party. Must be clean and safe, also will have space for a dj and band. any ideas?

Dear Sherri;  It’s kind of difficult to give specific advice when we don’t know where you are located, but here goes.  Usually the most inexpensive places are community centers and halls run by organizations such as the Elks, VFW and others.  Also, whether or not you will have liquor will affect your choices, and usually you will have to hire security depending upon your local ordinance.  Additionally, the season can play a part.  In my city, we have a beach house community center located on the lake that can be rented for private parties through the Parks and Recreation Department.  This may be an alternative for you.  Hope this helps with our wishes for many happy returns of the day.  Markdown Mom.
