Markdown Mom’s 10 Top Holiday gifts #10 The Gift of Giving
December 24th, 2007 by markdownmomFrom the Holiday Season of Thanksgiving on, we take a moment out of our busy lives to give thanks for the blessings that are bountiful in this nation. The economic and military strength of our nation is surpassed by the giving hearts of its’ citizens. Recalling Portia’s soliloquy in Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, Mercy is a quality that "…is twiced blessed…" It blesses the receiver and the giver. We enter a new era with wonderful organizations that give a hand-up especially to women by creating cottage industries that give women and families all over the world hope, health, independence and self-worth.
Oxfam assist women to become financially independent through such programs as Agromart and support of microfinance programs in third world nations, and OxFam Unwrapped where you can purchase 40 baby chicks for $40 or mesquito netting to deal with malaria, sheep $45 and many other gifts that will aid in the environmental, health, and food needs of other nations. Gifts range from under $25-to $500+. The recipient will receive a personalized card acknowledging the gift. You still have time today to make this donation in the name of another and have them sent an eCard acknowledging this generous gift in their name.
Heifer® International. Another organization that is a source of meaningful gifts and aid. Through their gift-giving you can purchase a whole animal or a portion of the animal like a heiffer, pig, rabbit, lama, water buffalo, or seedlings and trees. Gift ranges are $10-$1000. Print and eCards are available.
Truly these are gifts that keep on giving!
