  • Laundry Basics ala MarkDownMom Part 2

    July 29th, 2006 by markdownmom

This is the second part to MarkDown Mom’s Laundry Basics.

dryer balls6)  Tired of Buying Fabric Softener? Sometimes it feels like liquid fabric   softener just does not cut it alone and you are forced to buy additional products, such as fabric softener sheets to make clothes comfortable and less clingy. MarkDown Mom has discovered a product that will give your clothes the same feel as those treated with softener liquid and sheets but will not cost you an arm and a leg each month. The best part is that you can use this item over and over again. Dryer Max Dryer Balls® (2 each for $9.99), available at Drugstore.com, are great for keeping clothes looking their best and can also be used to fluff up pillows and down comforters. In addition, Dryer Max Dryer Balls® are hypoallergenic and cut drying time in half.

    7)       Oh, those Nasty Pen Marks. Don’t you just hate getting ink stains all over your brand new shirt? It seems that no matter how many times you try to wash the stain out there is always a shadow of it left behind. Instead of using bleach and color safe bleach, try using regular hairspray.  Simply spray and saturate the ink mark and let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour before putting the item in the washer. And Voilá…no more pen stain!

    8)       Don’t Wait, Just Toss the Bleach In! Clorox® UltimateCare™ bleachPremium Bleach is the first hypochlorite bleach gentle enough to pour directly on whites. Clothes come out white, soft and touchable. And it has a pleasant Soft Cotton™ scent.

    9)      Ring Around the Rosy…Or Collar? For greasy stains around the collar, use Goop®. Pre-treat collar with a liberal amount of goop® and let it penetrate the stain overnight. Your shirt will be looking brand new as soon as it hits the dry cycle.

    10)   The Trouble of Being Rusty. It is inevitable, one day your clothes will face the horror of the all too damaging rust streak. The number one thing to using rust removers is to first test product in an inconspicuous spot to check for color safety with garment. Next it is advisable to wear latex or PVC gloves as rust removers are caustic. Immerse the spot in cold water before apply rust stain remover. When applying rust remover, use a Q-tip in treating clothing as this will give you more control. Watch product and clothing every few minutes and keep reapplying product and rinsing until rust is gone. This method of application rinsing and reapplication helps to prevent over processing of clothing fibers. Adding soap to clothing will stop the rust removal process. The key to doing this is to be vigilant. Do not simply apply and let the item soak! Keep rechecking until the rust stain is gone then wash immediately.
