Nothing brings back fond childhood memories like a heaping scoop of ice cream on a hot summer’s day. While visiting the Twin Cities MDM had the opportunity to savor such a creamy delight at Izzy’s Ice Cream Store located in St. Paul’s Highland Park district.
Izzy’s Ice Cream was featured on the Food Network’s "Throw Down with Bobby Flay" in Fall of 2006 and has won several awards including Readers Digest’s Best Ice Cream Shop in America 2005, The Rake’s Best Place in Town for Dessert 2002, and One of the Top 100 Things to Do in Minnesota 2002 by Twin Cities Taste. Besides being an award winning ice cream shop, Izzy’s is also promoting a healthier environment. In 2005, Izzy’s started a project called High Noon Solar. Through 18 months of fundraising, Izzy’s became one of the first businesses to operate entirely on solar power! Izzy’s model is an inspiration to other businesses and is currently offering an annual $500 grant to individuals or businesses wishing to install solar panels in the twin cities/metro area.
Izzy’s Famous Ice Cream is made on-site, along with their delicious hand-made waffle cones (pictured right). Izzy’ s makes a variety of rich ice-creams such as vanilla bean, cookie dough, and cherry’s jubilee in a cup, cone, or to take home. Some other unique in-store flavors include Spongebob, Cake Batter, Irish Whiskey, and Dark Chocolate Zin (pictured right). Ice cream is ordered as a single or double scoop and comes with an extra dollop of ice cream on top called the "Izzy" (MDM had already eaten hers on the cone to the right-YUM). The Izzy is an extra treat and allows customers the chance to sample a new flavor. The store also sells ice cream sandwiches, sorbet, and other desserts.
There is inside seating, but most customers prefer to sit outside on the patio seats lining the brick building. The patrons who frequent the shop gather for good treats and conversation and it is not uncommon to see pet-owners treating their dogs to leftover vanilla ice cream and waffle cone.

SAVE THE DATE: Sunday, July 29 ALL DAY IZZY DAY
Izzy’s is celebrating its 6th Birthday and is offering a FREE 3/4 scoop of ice cream or a FREE EXTRA IZZY on every cone purchased.
