  • In Memoriam

    September 14th, 2007 by markdownmom

This past week, Markdown Mom lost her friend of 36 years to ovarian cancer.  In the hustle and bustle and 24/7 of our society, long friendships are difficult to sustain and in the last few years due to family obligations and illness, there were periods when we were not in touch except in our thoughts and prayers.  Yet, one phone call was all it took to catch-up and, once again, be in sync because our love and respect for each other never waned, never diminished.

Georgeanne was a person who you met once and never forgot.  Vivacious, warm-hearted, and genuine.  In a world of educated people, she was an intellectual.  She raised five children by herself while going to school and working at the same time.   I met Georgeanne in 1971 at my first job after college.  We were employed by an upscale department store in Duluth, Minnesota where I was working in women’s ready-to-wear and she in the drapery department.   Through the years we doubled dated together, shared our weddings, new arrivals, achievements, illnesses and passing of loved ones.  In short, we shared our lives. She was my mentor and my inspiration for www.markdownmom.com.   And now my cherished  friend, this wonderful and courageous woman, has gone and I am left behind with the memories of this dear soul whose artistry, laughter, enthusiasm  and strength will remain with me for the rest of  my life.  However, right now, as one poet wrote, "There is weeping in my heart,"  and I cannot bring myself to say goodbye–only  "See you in a little while, Georgie!"

Thank you so much Shelley.  Your prayers are sincerely appreciated.  Markdown Mom

A beautiful tribute. I’m sorry for your loss.

Dear Tina;  Thank you so much for your condolensces.  The tribute reflects only a small part of what Georgeanne meant to me and others.  A courageous and giving woman to the end, she gave her body to medical science in order to find a cure for ovarian cancer.  I would encourage all to consider making a donation as part of your annual gift-giving so that we can find the cure for this and other cancers.  Again, thank you for your thoughts–they are really appreciated and I will pass them on to the family.  Markdown Mom
