  • ▪ Free Print Ads for Selling “Stuff”

    February 23rd, 2006 by markdownmom

There is a way to sell your "stuff" locally and increase your profit. Many times you can place ads in the local media for free. Sometimes there are price restrictions, other times the bargain hunter can’t control when the ads will appear, or no index to classifieds, so you have to look through the entire paper. But, ads that are free are worth the effort. Local Shopper Mailers These are community-based direct mailers that contain local classifieds. You are limited in the number of words for an ad, and you usually have to drop the add at a drop box. It is hard to say when the ads will appear, so many people usually drop the same ad for several weeks until it finally appears in print. Usually, no real limits on the selling price of an item(s). Especially good to sell furniture and large pieces that are not good candidates for shipping. For Wisconsin and Minnesota bargain hunters check outManneys Shopper[www.manneys.com] Local Community Newpapers These are folksy weekly newspapers with articles about neighbors and friends, some political commentary, and local issues facing a city council or school board. Again, there are limitations on the number of words and price, usually between $100-$500. Ads appear about 1 to 2 weeks after placing it in drop box and are indexed by category. Newspapers You can place the item in your local city paper and designate when you would like it to appear. Usually runs a week and has a $50 selling price limit, limited in words, but is indexed by category. With this ad you know when it will run and it will hit most of your area’s market. Local Supermarkets You can make a flyer and post it at local supermarkets. It is a good idea to have a picture with a detailed description. Also put your contact number, e.g. cell phone, land phone, email at the bottom scored so that anyone interested can tear it off, but leave the body of the ad posted.
