  • Nervous About Auctions? Markdown Mom Says Take The Plunge At This Online Site!

    June 18th, 2006 by markdownmom

MarkdownMom likes online auctions, but for the novice they can be daunting, and even for the experienced, you can get stung.  If you have never tried an online auction before, MDM recommends the quality and civilized auction at ShopNBC™Auction for the following reasons:

    1.  ShopNBC Auction has quality goods.  There will not be any unexpected surprises, what you see is what you get.

MDM especially loves the jewelry items by  Charles Winston.  Although costume jewelry in the past has been derogatorily dismissed as fake or paste, it does not apply to the jewelry that is offered today.  Following the traditions of fine workmanship like  Harry Winston, Charles Winston incorporates workmanship into his fabulous fakes, which oftentimes include real gemstones and pearls, equaled to any fine jeweler.  Not only are these beautiful, but there is an advantage to looking like a million without the hefty price or liability.

    2.  ShopNBC gives you the SMRP or value equivalent of each item.  The only suggestion MDM would make is to make sure that in the heat of bidding, you do not overbid. Overbidding in this instance would be to exceed a clearance or sale price of the item.  Then, again, your bid has to reflect whether or not you believe size and color will be offered again as an auction item.  Some items do reappear

    3.  ShopNBC has a Watch List.  This allows the bidder to keep track of an item you are interested in bidding on.  It allows you to track the item and monitor it closely by giving such statistics as how much time is left to bid on item, highest bid, and by description if there are several items you are following.

    4.  ShopNBC has a Bid List.  This keeps track of all bids that you have made, the bids that you have lost and the bids that you have won.  One of the important musts of being a successful bidder, is keeping track of bids especially if you have multiple bids going at the same time.

    5.  ShopNBC has an Auction E-mail.  This notifies you of upcoming auctions on ShopNBC and allows you to set the opening bid.  In addition to setting your highest bid, getting on board early enables you to control the bidding process.

And the most important reason that MDM recommends this site for the novice bidder, is that you won’t have the bid snatched from the jaws of success by a last minute interloper:

    6.  ShopNBC has Auto Extend Time.  If bidders post a bid within the last 10 minutes of the auction, ShopNBC will automatically extend the total bidding time for an additional 10 minutes so that previous bidders have a chance to  counterbid on the item.   MDM feels that this features should be adopted by all online auctions in order to be fair to those who do not have auction sniper programs.

So novice auction bidders get your feet wet, take the plunge, and have fun!
