Chop Salad Makings Like The Pros As Seen On Martha
April 3rd, 2007 by markdownmomWere you as enthralled as MDM with watching Martha’s visit to Just Salad© Restaurant on March 12th! What a great idea!
But what was more intriguing, at least to MDM, was the salad double blade chopping knife with two wooden handles.
Fast and convenient, cutting the preparation of a salad with all those extra goodies to near nothing.
Once again, The only thing Martha failed to do was to give all of us amateur chefs the name of that neat knife or where to purchase it. Not only does the double blade make fast work of "slicing and dicing," but the double wood handle makes it safer by keeping the old fingers out of the way, and easier to operate for those who suffer with arthritis.
This handy chopping knife is called a Mezzaluna, a Double Bladed Mezzaluna to be exact.
The word Mezzaluna means half moon and is descriptive of its shape, which accounts for a back and forth rocking motion while it is chopping. It is made in Italy and the blades on the knife are each 8" long. The blades are set ¾" apart and are 1¾" wide, and are stainless steel. MDM found this item at fantes.com for $39.99 and at Amazon in 6", 7" or 9" ranging in price from $17.00-$76.00. Additionally, you may want to consider purchasing the specially curved chopping board along with the messaluna.
