  • ▪ Butcher’s Specials

    February 25th, 2006 by markdownmom

Many supermarkets will have ‘butcher specials’ on prime beef. Usually these include high end steaks that have been labeled reduced for quick sale. This gives the grocery shopper an opportunity to pick-up porterhouse and other premium pieces at sirloin prices. Don’t be afraid to purchase these bargains. The only advice MDM would give is to prepare these items as soon as possible. Bring steaks to room temperature and grill them for a delicious meal. This leads to another bargain for your consideration: Supermarket markdowns. At your favorite supermarket, look for markdowns on bakery, sundry items including cleaning materials, and special or gourmet food and cooking oils. These bargains give an opportunity for your gourmet chef to try exotic items at greatly reduced prices. The real hunt comes in locating the markdown carts in your store. Of course, you can expect to find bakery markdowns in the bakery department, but other markdowns usually are kept in carts located near the employee entrances at the back of the store. Happy hunting and bon appetit! Fresh Direct. For those bargain shoppers in the New York Metropolitan area be sure to peruse this site for online grocery shopping and home delivery. Site contains current prices, pictures, and nutrition information, availability, and taste e.g. blood oranges rated as more tart than sweet. New Yorkers you are so lucky, especially helpful to urban dwellers for time and convenience! Netgrocer. Has an extensive kosher line including seafood. Reduced items are listed in their "specials" category, limited. Also has a toy section that is subdivided by categories including science toys and plush animals. Peapod. Currently the most expensive of the online grocery stores serving Chicago, Milwaukee, S.E.Wisconsin, and affilliates (Stop & Shop) in Conneticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and (Giant) Washington D.C., Virginia, and Maryland.
