Art Fairs: Fine Arts, Crafts, and Entertainment
June 27th, 2006 by markdownmom
Summer Art Fairs are marvelous, festive occasions to explore the local art scene. Hobnobbing with the artists, artisans, and other fair goers, expands the sensory environs of our world and provides educational entertainment for the entire family usually free -of- charge..
From potters, jewelers, painters to habidashers the bargain hunter can find quality, often one of a kind, goods at competitive prices. For the crafter, this is an opportunity to
sample new ideas and for the new homeowner it is an opportunity to collect art work from rising new artists at reproduction prices.
Many artists tour during the summer, and although many items for sale will be geared to the public- at- large, MDM recommends that if you like the work of an individual artist or artisan, but would like to see a larger sample of their work, or have an item custom-made, be sure to pick-up their business card to contact them later.
Haggling. It is not uncouth to ask for "the best price" on a particular item. Remember, they are vendors too and have a stake not only in covering the cost of renting the table, but travel and sometimes lodging expenses. Therefore, they do want to make a sale. Of course, as with any event you will have a better opportunity at getting your price towards the end of the last day.
Make the Art Fair a family outing, not only will you enjoy the sites and smells, including mini donuts and kettle corn, but you may just spark your creative juices or those of your children!
