MarkdownMom At The Movies: Inception

Chris Nolan, noted for Memento, The Prestige, and Batman:  The Dark Knight, delves into the far recesses of the mind with Inception starring Leonardo DeCaprio.  For those who like a visually stimulating, action packed movie with an edge, this movie provides all of that and more.  Leonardo DeCaprio as the main leader of a team that accesses their targets’ dreams to acquire secrets buried in the psyche, takes it one step further to plant an idea into the mind of the son of a wealthy energy tycoon, is a tour de force in this role.  Like the team, his fellow actors offer strong, independent supportive roles that offer up a dynamic ensemble within the many layers of this movie.  Well worth the price of the $10 movie ticket and later buying the DVD to play over and over again.

Adults Will Fight The Kids To Play With These Hot Toys!

It use to be up, up, and away in my beautiful balloon.  Now it’s up, up, and away in my beautiful flying saucer.

The coolest flying toys offered by Vectron, has this new addition that can be controlled by your palm.  Automatic sensors keep tabs on the distance to the ground to keep it hovering.  This latest interactive toy comes with 1 vectron, 1 charger, and instructions for hours of fun.   Comes in blue and orange.

 At Amazon for $29.95.

For the big kid in your life, check out the Vectron Blackhawk Flying Saucer that hovers, dives, and climbs.

Four years in development, it uses the latest US Air Force technology. The surrounding ring features an LED display into which you can program up to four separate 30 character messages. These can be changed while the Blackhawk is flying. Additional green LEDs run along the top and bottom of the ring. The flying saucer is tethered by a command line that sends the power and commands to the Blackhawk, eliminating the need for batteries. (The docking station plugs into any AC power outlet.) The command line can also be threaded through the docking station to your specified length which prevents the flying saucer from flying off out of control, so you can fly it safely even in the smallest of spaces! A training feature steps in to prevent crash damage, making learning to fly the Blackhawk a piece of cake. It also features a turbo mode that makes the controls more sensitive and an autopilot mode that controls the Blackhawk hands free. A safety feature is included that stop the propellers automatically upon contact with any object.  At Amazon for $49.95.

Remember, Providing Hours of Fun, Means Keeping Kids and Hubby Out of Your Hair!

A Loaf of Bread, A Jug of Wine, and Thou: MDM’s Tour Of The Twin Cities

Good food and good company in an convivial atmosphere, what could be better than that? The Chianti Grill has moved to its’ new digs near the Har Mar Mall in Roseville, off of Snelling in St. Paul.  Offering a fantastic wine list, and great Italian food, Markdown Mom recently visited the Chianti Grill at its’ new location and was greeted by the chef.

This is a great date place with moderate prices coupled with a rich wood interior, and great service.  Come for lunch and save about 25%.  When ordering, spend the extra $1.50 for the balsamic vinegar with gorganzola cheese.Yummy!  Markdown Mom loved the shrimp filled cannelloni–oh so good and so many other delectables!

If you see the chef, tell him Markdown Mom sent you and add:

“Tutti a tavola a mangiare!” (everybody to the table to eat!)

Sidewalk Sale Days

Summertime  spells summer fun.  And for bargain hunters nothing is more fun than sidewalk sale days.  Recently the Markdown Chics attended Grand Days in St. Paul, Minnesota. This is an annual event that takes place around the first weekend in June and is a great opportunity to explore sites that are close by, in fact, in your  own neighborhood!

Families, couples, and friends of all ages and their pets walked the 3-mile stretch between  Cleveland Avenue and Dale Street on Grand Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota’s highland park district for Grand Old Day–the largest one-day festival in the Midwest.

The event started at 7:45am and ended around 5:00pm.  Over 150 food and merchandise vendors and several entertainment venues lined the streets.  Some of the highlight’s from this year’s event included several musicians such as a couple of didgeridoo players, a fiddler, a mariachi and a rock band.

Several food vendors that frequent the state fair were also there such as mini-doughnuts, corn dogs and brauts, gyros and other ethnic foods, ice cream and smoothies.  And many artists were selling tie-dye shirts, jewelry, hand-carved furniture and masks.  This event happens only one-day during summer, so mark your calendars for next year!
