A Tekkie’s Guide to Shopping for Sales

   By

A new approach to finding sales is currently being offered to Manhatten cell phone owners.  With plans to expand nationwide, MyShoppie, will text message your cell phone with a list of the latest sales or new product arrivals in a 10 block radius from where you are standing in a matter of seconds.  This service is offered FREE, but is limited to Manhatten at present.  MDM notes that this is a retailer-driven service updated by the merchants–a novel idea of a mobile service in real time for shoppers.  Similar to a GPS system, this idea if expanded, will undoubtedly change the look of retail advertising moving it from the hard copy of printed flyers, etc., to the airwaves.  This is worth watching to see how this idea unfolds and expands–it’s real test will come during next year’s holiday season.

I’ve used this in NYC and it’s pretty good. I’m not the biggest shopper, so a little help is very appreciated, especially when it’s customized to my location. I learned of a few sample sales and some retail blowout sales that ultimately landed me a new pair of shoes on the cheap. I recommend it. Thanks, Tom

Dear Tom;  Thanks for the input–it’s really important to find out how well things work in practice as oppose to theory.  I think that this idea is going to spread, the only question is how fast?  Welcome to our bargain community and keep in touch!  Markdown Mom
